Steel Vintage Bikes started in 2012 as a labour of love for hand-built steel racing bicycles from the early 1900s through to the 1990s. The café on Wilhelmstrasse 91, sitting halfway between Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz, grew organically out of the shop — vintage bicycles hang on the walls for sale while you eat. The kitchen is entirely in-house, using beans from their own Kaffee-Schwarz roastery in Frankfurt. The menu runs from pancakes and bowls to Mediterranean plates, all freshly made. Since 2022 they also repair any brand of bike in the workshop at the back. Fold your Brompton, lean it against the wall next to a 1960s Colnago, and order a flat white. There is no better way to spend an afternoon in Berlin Mitte.
